AVA Alexander Virtual Assistance About Me
My name is Gayle Alexander and my journey started at the end of 2016 in marketing to plunging headlong into working as a Freelance VA. The lessons I have learnt and the many inspiring people, networks and contacts I have met along the way, are what has made AVA Alexander Virtual Assistance a reality.
I worked in the geographic industry for over 15 years and found that the need for increased brand awareness was extremely important. How do you get clients and supplies to interact with you if they have never heard of you.
After taking several Marketing courses (CIM, Google Squared Online) and finding myself with the opportunity to pursue this further following redundancy, I took a jump and undertook a career pivot into Video, Social Media and Digital Marketing.
I started working voluntarily with NI start up PlotBox as a marketing assistant, where amongst many tasks, I wrote blogs in a highly unusual subject area, Cemeteries and Crematoriums, not something you envision in your future!
I also starting volunteering on the leadership panel for Lean In Belfast, a regional branch of a global women’s networking organisation that supports and empowers women to reach their goals. I manage the website, surveys, newsletters and communications. Since then, I have helped increase the membership numbers and started their own YouTube channel, filming and editing content for it.
I have learnt many valuable skills, practicing my craft, gaining knowledge and experience of the fast-paced Social Marketing landscape and gaining confidence and finding a niche I really enjoyed working in. I love the variety of Social and Digital Media, the fast pace and the minute details of buyer behaviour and creating content, whether it be social posts, blogs, whitepapers, videos, infographs etc., that engages the businesses audience.
In late 2017, it was then suggested that to me, I work for myself as a Virtual Assistant. I then set myself up a sole trader and started AVA Alexander Virtual Assistance (there where several names suggested, it’s not easy picking a business name). Now I work with the flexibility and variety that’s allows me to fully enjoy my work, be creative and look after my two young sons all part time. I now have the basis of a new career when they are both in school.
Along this journey, I have embraced the opportunity for continued learning and believe that this is so important to any growing business but also on a individual basis also. I have even spoken at Youth Enterprise Events in local schools as a Digital Ambassador, encouraging the younger generation into Digital, setting up their own businesses, exploring new ideas and to #NeverStopLearning.
I have therefore constantly continued to study new things regularly (even if it’s Tiffany Glass work, Silversmithing or Sewing) I believe we all need to do this for our own well-being and to stay relevant.
Now, in 2018, it brings with it excitement, enthusiasm and a new confidence that I look forward to sharing and putting to good use with all prospective clients.
